American Marketing Association Awards JTW Best "Public Outreach"

We are pleased to announce that JTW won an award from the American Marketing Association (AMA) for recent work we did for Champs Sports. The Portland Chapter of the AMA hosts an annual award show, called the MAX Awards, which celebrates marketing excellence. We entered the “Be Like Mike” influencer kits into the Public Outreach category and took home the award. 


Award Submission

On August 8, 1991, one of the most famous commercials of all time debuted: Gatorade's "Be Like Mike." For the 25th anniversary of the commercial release in 2017, Gatorade and Air Jordan collaborated to create the "Be Like Mike" collection. This collection includes shoes, clothes, and accessories that feature Gatorade and Air Jordan branding.

To celebrate the upcoming launch of this collection, Champs Sports enlisted JTW to conceptualize, design, and produce 20 seeding kits to send to a strategic list of influencers. These kits were to utilize the official Jordan-Gatorade brand assets created for the campaign as well as Champs Sports branding. Gatorade coolers were used to tie in the retro theme, in addition to Retro 6 Gatorade Jordans, a corduroy strapback hat, and a terry fleece pullover hoodie. 



This project resulted in 20 influencers receiving what they proclaimed to be “the best sneaker unboxing package ever.” These influencers, including DJ Khaled, created YouTube videos of the unboxing that were shared on social media platforms, resulting in an exponential amount of views and engagements.

From initial ideation to the time the first package was unboxed, this project was completed in less than 30 days and was delivered on time and on budget. Our ability to create rapid prototypes and quickly deliver high-quality products is one of our superpowers that made this project a success. 




JTW provided the following:

  • Concepts, renderings and copy for both the packaging and internal contents
  • Production of all elements, including an oversized shoe box, Gatorade cooler, foam inserts, products from the collection, and graphic inserts
  • Assembly and shipping of all kits to designated influencers on behalf of Champs Sports
